When paying $60,000 above asking price feels like a deal: Here’s what a cooling housing market looks like in the Seattle area

Posted on September 12, 2021 By admin

The white-hot Seattle-area housing market has started to cool, by some measures. Last month, fewer new listings hit the market here and home prices dipped compared to a month earlier, according to data released Tuesday by the Northwest Multiple Listing Service.

Brokers report occasional price drops, and one local economist says we could be hitting a “price ceiling.” But a year of runaway growth has already done its damage.

Home prices across the Puget Sound region remain up by double-digit percentages compared to last year and 2019.

The dual realities — a cooling market with high prices — reflect the

Housing price bubble will wipe out wealth, Peter Boockvar warns

Posted on August 30, 2021 By admin

Investor Peter Boockvar is sounding the alarm on a housing price bubble brought on by the Federal Reserve’s Covid pandemic policies.

He warns first-time homebuyers are most vulnerable to dramatic losses.

“I feel bad for the people who bought homes over the past year because they’re the ones that paid the very elevated prices,” the chief investment officer at Bleakley Advisory Group told CNBC’s “Trading Nation” on Thursday.

He singles out those who put down 5% amid historically low mortgage rates. If home prices correct by 10%, Boockvar sees a world of pain.

‘Their equity is basically wiped out’

Q2 Earnings Preview: Home Depot, Lowe’s To Benefit From Strong Housing Market

Posted on August 18, 2021 By admin

Home improvement retailers, Home Depot (NYSE:) and Lowe’s (NYSE:), have seen their sales soar during the pandemic. With the housing market remaining strong, that winning streak, which has so far spanned six quarters—is likely to continue when both of these companies announce their latest earnings during the coming week.

Despite massive job losses and bankruptcies in industries battered by lockdowns and social distancing measures, home sales have been on fire across the US, as many Americans have opted to move to the suburbs, in search of more room to distance, and for remote school and home offices.

SLC launches tiny home design competition to address housing shortage

Posted on July 27, 2021 By admin

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) – Salt Lake City is searching for creative designers to help address the city’s housing shortage.

Today’s announcement comes a few months after Salt Lake City Mayor Erin Mendenhall announced progress on tiny homes being built for homeless Utahns as part of her goal to have a tiny home village in place this winter.

‘Tiny homes’ hit the Utah real estate market

“Participants are invited to submit a design for a standalone home or cluster of small cottages — also known as tiny homes — in a planned development, or an Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) on

Workmen have invaded Flora Dillard’s house on the east side of Cleveland. There’s plastic over everything and no place to sit, but Dillard doesn’t seem to mind. “A couple of days of inconvenience is nothing, compared to the results that you get,” she says.

She’ll benefit, and so might the climate. The workers have plugged cracks around the foundation and rerouted an air vent to reduce the risk that mold will form. They’re insulating the drafty

Salt Lake City creates tiny home design contest as possible housing shortage solution

Posted on July 24, 2021 By admin

SALT LAKE CITY– In an effort to find solutions to Utah’s housing shortage, Salt Lake City officials hope tiny home construction may help with the problem.

City officials say the cost of buying a home or renting an apartment is too expensive. A recent study released estimated a tenant must make a little over $20 an hour in order to afford a two-bedroom apartment in Utah–a price tag out of reach for many residents.

Community and Neighborhoods Director Blake Thomas said Salt Lake wants residents to send in their tiny home design ideas. The ideas don’t have to comply with
